Its smart contrast enhancement is also extremely useful for brightening murky areas of a photo and reining in over-exuberant highlights. Its greatest strength lies in the versatility of its control point system, which makes targeted adjustments fast and easy, even on the small screen of a phone. It’s a standout in the iOS environment, and in the Android ecosystem it’s easily among the best general-purpose editors available. Snapseed is a polished and powerful photo editor. Google+ gets a shortcut on the main screen, Google’s way of saying: “Enjoy this free app, and check out our social network while you’re at it.” Picasa is relegated to the Share menu like a shamed puppy, along with all the apps on your device that are set up to receive images (which will probably include Facebook and Twitter) and antiquated technologies like email and MMS. It also misses out on the new Retrolux filters, which simulate old films. Unfortunately, the Android version of Snapseed doesn’t get the expanded frame selection that was added to the iOS app. The basics do what you’d expect, including white balance, which is something not all mobile apps get right. Here, you’ll find a (mostly) traditional set of control parameters: brightness, contrast, saturation and white balance, joined by the non-standard but very useful “Ambience.” Instead, we’ll try the Tune Image function. We decided to cancel out of the Automatic tool altogether by hitting the “X,” which returns to the main menu without applying changes. Got that?īy the way, the question mark icon at the top left calls up basic contextual help, but it’s no help for subtleties like this, which must be solved via experimentation and web browsing. Changing contrast influences color, and the “color correction” is actually an adjustment of how much the contrast parameter shifts color. It’s a brilliant interface, though the results in the Automatic tool are confusing. Sliding vertically (again, anywhere on the image) changes the current parameter: here we can choose between contrast and color corrections. The order doesn’t always make sense, but the first item is the Automatic tool, which applies a quick correction to the image. Snapseed’s functions are grouped in labeled icons along the bottom or side of the screen. The iOS limits are more variable depending on device, ranging from 6.25 megapixels on the iPhone 3GS and the original iPad, up to 22.25 megapixels for the latest iPads. On tablets, the cut-off is 16 megapixels, easily exceeded by a slew of digital cameras. On phones, anything more than 8 megapixels gets scaled down, which probably won’t pinch unless you’re using one of Sony’s high-megapixel Android handsets. You might run into Snapseed’s image size limitation. The thumbnails tend to be miniscule, so you may prefer starting within your Gallery (which offers more browsing flexibility) and opening a photo from there by using the Edit option. This offers the choice of taking a photo with the Android camera app or picking one from your Gallery (or other file browsers if you have any installed). Since you’re probably not interested in tweaking the included sample photo of dead trees, the first thing you’ll do is hit the camera button. Requires Android 4.0 or later Getting Started Flexible control of exposure, contrast, color and sharpness.Innovative “control-point”-based editing approach. The iOS app has a loyal following: we’ll see if the Android version deserves the same.Īlong with Snapseed’s arrival on Android, the iOS version also got a refresh, and in true Google style the app is now free for both platforms (it originally cost $4.99 in the Apple App Store). Photojournalist Dan Chung used the app extensively while photographing the 2012 Olympic Games in London with his iPhone for The Guardian. Snapseed’s iOS incarnation won Apple’s best iPad App of the Year award in 2011. This is good news for the Android app ecosystem, which is light on “serious” photo editors. When Google bought Nik Software, maker of the popular Snapseed photo editor for iOS, it wasn’t hard to predict that Android users would eventually get a taste of that app’s powerful image optimization tools. The app now brings its control points and filters to Android, with a new emphasis on Google’s favorite social network. Snapseed’s photo editing love isn’t just for iOS anymore.

I guess they never considered how many people might do the same after them, or how many millennia their little keepsake took to be made – much less replaced.Īs one of the state’s oldest show caves, Onyx has seen lots of unthinking destruction, especially true back in the early days. Back then, folks didn’t think twice about reaching out and snapping off a souvenir or two during their visit to show the folks back home. In the early days, show caves were not treated with the same respect and understanding that they are today. Despite this, numerous caves around the country have “onyx” in their names from the flowstone found within. Flowstone typically contains calcite or other carbonate minerals, not onyx. Minerals deposited by flowing water over thousands of years make up the weird shapes. Flowstone, once commonly referred to as “cave onyx,” is a smooth, sheetlike formation found in caves. The cave got its name from the number of flowstone formations found inside of it. Onyx Cave was discovered in 1891 and was turned into a show cave in 1893. Java is a computer programming language and software platform that Oracle Corporation developed to allow programmers to build applications and develop programs. If you pay the $5 per month the game becomes even better since it adds in a lot of quests. There’s plenty of distractions from just fighting monsters. If you haven’t played a MMO before and want something that you can dip in and out of then Runescape is perfect. It’s worth pointing out with MS that most level 130+ players probably spend more on NX cash per month than it would cost to play WoW. I was probably looking at around 4-5 hours to level up at 113 just by pure grinding. The “Big Bang” update has greatly improved levelling speed but when you get to lvl110+ it’s actually SLOWER than before the patch. It can stay interesting if you have a friendly guild to speak to but in the end I put it down for a week a just didn’t want to pick it back up again. It’s barely worth doing quests past level 70 as the exp is better just from grinding. Your main time in the game is spent endlessly hunting monsters. I have a level 113 Battle Mage and even though there are party quests, jump quests, events, etc. Maplestory: Great for a free game but insanely repetitive. Only downside is you have to pay – however, IMO if you like MMOs then the price is worth it. A lot more content, far more balanced than MS, great PVP, great everything. I’ve actually played all 3 for a considerable amount of time: If you want to play something shitty and boring that makes your head hurt even though you have to pay for it, go to…. If you want to take a long time and take your time to level up a skill, go to Runescape. So I suppose the game may be better now than what I saw half a year ago.Ĭonclusion: If you are into playing for 30 minutes to an hour to level up once, I say go to maple. I really don’t know what to say about this, especially after the firestorm of criticism after the wilderness was ruined, but, I checked the official website and apparantly, the wilderness has made a comeback. I have heard that maple gets better after 130, but I’m a Cygnus Knight and I can’t level that high. Lvl 1-70 there is a nice storyline, and 71-100 is an adventure to explore the rest of the maple world. After 100 is just grinding for me, so what’s the point? But everything before 100 is good. I haven’t played maple for a month, and runescape for half a year, so don’t think I’ve been playing all this time.Īfter the Big Bang, everything starts out good, until you reach lvl 100 (I’m lvl 120). Well, now I come back a few months later, and I have to agree with most of the posts. It will definutly keep you emtertained on a wet and rainy Saturday. even though people hate WoW because it costs money, i say its definutly worth it. WoW’s dungons take a lot of time to do (around 20-40mins depending on if the group knows what there doing) but you can also do challenging raids too like 10-25-40 man dungon raids that require percise timing and communication to complete or 40 man PvP raids against an enamy hometown. Ive done some of them and i personally think there way too short. I also know that MapleStory does do dungons. RuneScape-haven’t played it so i can’t say a lot about it.Īs you can see WoW certainly has a lot of things to do if you get bored of one thing. Get bored of that you can join or make a guild and start leveling your guild for special buffs that help your group or compleat guild achievments which give you guild exp and character exp. Get bored of that you can start working on your achivements which are difficalt to complete. Get bored of that you can also start a proffesion in the game to earn money or make items for you or sell them on the AH to other members of your server. Get bored of that you can play on the battlegrounds or arena (have to be 85 for arenas)and kill the enamy in PvP combat. First you can lvl your character to 85 by doing quests, killing monsters in the huge WoW world, or doing dungons with some other WoW members. One thing i like better about WoW than MapleStory is that there is tons to do. It glitches a lot so most people wait till 65% where it doesn’t glich so much). For instence, you have to download the patch, or for the new members the game, to 30% than you can start playing. By the time your caught up with the old patch, a new one comes in(On Caticlysm, Wow added a something that alowed you to play the game while your updating you patch. Best part i like about WoW is that it is a big variety type of game and is always updating. WoW-I’ve played WoW for 2 years now and i still find out new things about. im not a huge fan of playing with lots of other people, i like a game that i can play when i have nothing else to do at home. The main problem i have with mable story is that its strickly killing nothing else. MapleStory-this is a great game and i love it a lot, its just it gets boring after a while like you said.
